Signing up and signing in

There are three ways to get into Vilvik. Pick the one you like, then come back to any of the others later if you change your mind.

Creating an account¶

Open the sign-up page and choose one of the options:

Sign up with Google. One click. We use the verified email Google gives us and you are in.
Sign up with GitHub. Same flow as Google. The verified email on your GitHub account becomes your Vilvik email.
Sign up with email and a password. Type your email and pick a password. We send a short verification code to your inbox to confirm the address before you can sign in.

After the first sign-up step you finish your profile: pick a display name and a username, and confirm your country. After that you land on your dashboard.

Signing in¶

The sign-in page shows the same three options. Use whichever method you signed up with. If you signed up with Google or GitHub but want to also sign in with a password, see "Adding a password to a social account" below.

Forgot your password¶

On the sign-in page, click Forgot password?. Type the email on your account and we send you a link. Open the link and pick a new password. The link expires shortly, so request a fresh one if you wait too long.

If you signed up with Google or GitHub and now want to also sign in with email and a password, the fastest way is:

Sign in normally with Google or GitHub.
Open your profile on the Account tab.
Click Set a password and pick one. No current password is needed since you do not have one yet.

From then on you can sign in either way. The two sign-in methods point at the same account, so your runs, credits, and settings are unchanged.

If you cannot sign in to reach the profile page, use Forgot password instead and follow the emailed link. It works for OAuth-only accounts too.

Changing your password later¶

Open your profile, click Change password, enter the current one, then pick a new one. If you have forgotten the current password, use Forgot password from the sign-in page.

Same email on more than one provider¶

If you sign in with Google using an email that already has a Vilvik account from GitHub or from an email and password sign-up, we sign you into the existing account and link the new provider to it. There is nothing to do on your side. The reverse is also true: signing in with GitHub after a Google sign-up links the two.

Accepting an invitation¶

Invitation links open the sign-up page with the invited email already filled in. Pick any of the three sign-up methods to finish creating the account; the inviter gets their reward as soon as the account is created. The email field is locked to the invited address so the reward attribution does not go astray.

If a Vilvik account already exists for the invited email, the invitation link asks you to sign in instead. The invitation is accepted as part of that sign-in.
